Jim Jones - Senior Pastor

Rev. James Grady Jones, Jr. comes to us from Lea’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Roxboro, NC where he served as Student Pastor while completing his Masters in Divinity at Duke University.

During that time Jim’s devotion to serving rural churches led to a Rural Ministries Fellowship awarded to him by The Duke Endowment, one of only 5 awarded that year.

Prior to entering into the ministry full-time, Jim ran a successful rental equipment business in Siler City.  A true North Carolinian, born on base at Camp Lejeune and growing up in Jacksonville, Gastonia and Greenville, Jim graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Zoology and along with his wife, Susan, remains a loyal Tarheel fan.

Tony PurvisStudent Pastoral Associate

Tony was born and raised in rural South Dakota. The youngest of six children, he vividly recalls rising at 4:30 AM to feed the cattle in -40 degree weather. Always intellectually curious, Tony enjoys problem solving and sinking his teeth into a project until a resolution is reached. He attended South Dakota State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history.

After college Tony served as a Quartermaster for the US Army in Germany and Panama. He left the Army after 9 years and worked in retail management for Walmart and later for the City of Olathe for 22 years as a technology project manager and rate analyst.

This upcoming year will be his second as a student at Duke Divinty School where he is seeking a master’s degree. Tony's goal is to learn as much about preaching in the rural church as he can. He plans to spend his time here at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church demonstrating his love of God and helping others to know and love Him too. We welcome Tony and look forward to his contribution to our worship and ministry.
