Missions and Outreach

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ - Matthew 25:35-40 (NIV)

We encourage everyone involved with Mount Pleasant church to be involved in ways that serve those whom Jesus served - the poor, sick, outcast, imprisoned, homeless and/or hungry. If God has given you a heart for those in need, and you are looking for ways to serve, please contact us.

Chatham County Teacher Workday ChildCare Program

At MPUMC, we recognize and understand that finding childcare for elementary-aged children is a challenge. We provide low-cost childcare on 8 of the Chatham County Teacher Workdays. This program is led by program director Lauren Wert, who structures the days, and plans, implements, and supervises activities. Children are divided into age-appropriate groups, and each group has 2 adult leaders. This program is designed to provide elementary aged children from Pre-K to 5th grade a safe, welcoming, loving place to be on Teacher Workdays, and it is designed to address a real need and challenge for parents and our Chatham County community. For more information about this program, email the church at mpumcchildcare@gmail.com.

Chatham Outreach Alliance (CORA)

We collect canned and dried goods for the local food pantry on a weekly basis, guided by CORA's requests. Items may be placed in the CORA collection box located just inside the front door of the sanctuary on Sunday morning. These donations are delivered to the CORA Food Pantry in Pittsboro to provide emergency food for families in crisis. We ask each family to donate one item per month to help the less advantaged. If you'd like to know more about CORA, follow this link:  http://www.corafoodpantry.org/

Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper

Fat Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday, is a day to mark the end of the pre-Lenten season. The French name Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday, from the custom of using all the fats in the home before Lent in preparation for the season of fasting. Our Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper will be Tuesday, February 13, 4-6pm. It is a pay-what-you-can meal! All funds raised in 2024 will go towards UMCOR - United Methodist Committee On Relief - a non-profit that helps and supports people who have experienced a natural disaster.

Perry Harrison Elementary Partnership

MPUMC and Perry Harrison Elementary School are joined together in relationship and partnership to support each others missions, ministries, and endeavors. Some of the many ways MPUMC supports Perry Harrison Elementary is through their Snack Fairy program, their Reading Buddy program, and the Chatham PTA Thrift Stores. For more information about how to support MPUMC and Perry Harrison programs, contact the church office!

United Methodist Men (UMM)

The mission of United Methodist Men is to help men grow in Christ, so others may know Christ. Mt. Pleasant UMC's UMM group meets at 8am at the Pittsboro Bojangles on the third Sunday of every month for a fellowship breakfast meeting. Mt. Pleasant's UMM put faith into action by partnering with our UWIF to coordinate multiple barbecue and stew fundraisers during the year, and participating in building and grounds improvements throughout the church and community. We hope you will join us!

United Women in Faith (UWIF)

The mission of United Women in Faith is to connect and nurture women so that they can inspire, influence, and impact local and global communities. The mission of Mt. Pleasant UMC's UWIF is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive, fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. Mt. Pleasant's UWIF group meets on the third Sunday of every month for a fellowship luncheon immediately following our 11am worship service. Mt. Pleasant's UWIF put faith into action by supporting the community through a partnership with a local elementary school and supporting community organizations. We hope you will join us!

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

We support all those dealing with the aftermath of disasters through UMCOR's disaster relief efforts of providing flood/cleaning buckets, health kits, and other post-disaster assistance. Their website can be found on our website under "About Us > Other Information" or on the homepage of the North Carolina Conference: http://www.nccumc.org

Angel Trees

SUPPORT AN ANGEL THIS CHRISTMAS!

Mt. Pleasant UMC sponsors an Angel Tree under the Salvation Army each December. The Salvation Army provides information on gift requests for each child including clothing sizes, and toys/gifts that they are hoping to receive for Christmas. Families at the church then sponsor one or more children and fulfill the requests. The gifts are brought to the church before Christmas and then delivered to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army delivers the gifts to the children.
