Sunday Morning Worship
Every Sunday, we have worship at 9:30am in the Sanctuary. All are welcome! Come as you are!
Ash Wednesday Worship Service
This Ash Wednesday - Wednesday, February 14 - join us for a drop-in service. A devotional will be provided for you to do either in the sanctuary before you receive ashes or at home after you receive ashes. Pastor Heidi will be in the sanctuary to impose ashes upon people's foreheads. The drop-in hours are 11am-1pm and 4pm-5pm.
Stations of the Cross
Every Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, the Thursday and Friday before Easter, Pastor Heidi hosts a self-guided Stations of the Cross that starts in the Fellowship Hall and finishes in the sanctuary. This year, the Stations of the Cross will take place on Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29 from 9am-5pm. Join us!
Easter Sunday Worship
On Easter Sunday - March 31 - we will have two worship services! Our first service will be a sunrise service at 6:30am outside the sanctuary. Join us as we praise and celebrate our risen Lord in the glow of the sunrise. The sunrise service will be immediately followed by a breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. Biscuits and other fixings will be provided. Our second service will be an Easter Sunday service in the sanctuary at 11am. We invite you to bring flowers to the 11am service as we flower the Easter cross that will be placed on the sanctuary front steps after service.
Homecoming Sunday
Every year, on the 4th Sunday of June, we celebrate another year of ministry with God! This service includes a guest preacher with connections to MPUMC's past; a special offering to support a mission, ministry, outreach endeavor; and a potluck fellowship luncheon! All in the community are welcome to join us for this service as we celebrate where we have journeyed with God and the paths ahead that God has prepared for us!
All Saints Sunday
All Saints Sunday is observed in the United Methodist tradition on the first Sunday of November. This service is a Christian celebration honoring all the saints who have faithfully followed God. This service is a time to remember and give thanks for the lives of the saints who have shown dedication, love, and sacrifice in their faith. At MPUMC, this service includes a time of remembrance of loved ones who have joined the church triumphant in the last year by naming them aloud and inviting family to come forth and light a candle in the memory of the saint. At the conclusion of service, the families who lit a candle are inviting to take the candle home, an ever-present reminder of the light this loved one brought their life, and the light this saint continues to shine on the paths of loved ones still living their faith here.
Hanging of the Greens
This special service is always held on the first Sunday of Advent, marking the start of the season. During this service, members of the congregation decorate the church with greenery, wreaths, candles, and other symbols that represent the themes of Advent, such as hope, peace, joy, and love. This event is both a celebration and a time of reflection, as we prepare the church and prepare for Christ's birth. Scripture readings, prayers, and hymns accompany the decorating. At the end of the service, everyone helps decorate the chrismon tree, always a favorite!
Advent Services
Our Advent services are held the 4 Sundays leading up to Christmas Eve. Advent is the season of preparation and anticipation for the birth of Christ. The themes of Advent are hope, peace, joy, and love. Each week in Advent, we focus on one theme. Key elements of these services include: lighting the Advent wreath at the beginning of service, reading Scriptures and singing hymns that reflect the anticipation of Christ's coming, and Children's Moments that help even the littlest child understand the Christmas story.
Candlelight Christmas Eve Service
This cherished tradition marks the culmination of the Advent season and the celebration of Jesus Christ's birth. This service is held at 4pm on Christmas Eve in the sanctuary. It is a time of reverence, joy, and reflection. Key elements of this service include: lighting the Advent Wreath and the Christ Candle to symbolize the arrival of Christ, the Light of the World; reading the nativity story and singing traditional Christmas hymns to celebrate the joy of Christ's birth; and singing "Silent Night" at the end of service while congregants pass the flame from one candle to another, representing how Christ's light spreads throughout the world ever since the bright light of the star at Christ's birth. It is a meaningful and intimate service, and a beloved way to center our hearts on the true meaning of Christmas.
Lessons and Carols
We always celebrate a Lessons and Carols service the Sunday after Christmas. This worship service tells the story of Christ's birth through a series of scripture readings (lessons) and accompanying hymns (carols). There is always a reflective, joyful atmosphere as we trace the story of God's redemption from the Old Testament through the birth of Christ. This service is a powerful experience of scripture and song to tell the story of Christmas through worship, reflection, and celebration.
